The DR-100 is the best-selling western guitar from the traditional manufacturer Epiphone. The dreadnought body shape is a classic for Bluegrass, Country and Folk, and is probably the most famous body shape among all western guitars. It enjoys this great popularity due to its incredible flexibility and accurate address. The combination of solid spruce and mahogany produces a clear sound image with strong mids and present trebles, which is ideal for attack-rich plectrum play.
Epiphone began making guitars in 1928. The first acoustic guitar was the so called Archtop with a round sound hole, followed by the Archtop with the typical f-form sound holes, taken from violin making. In the mid 30s, Epiphone became so popular with the Archtop models, that it became a serious competitor for the then market leader; the Gibson Guitar Corporation. Following the death of founding family in 1957, Epiphone and its entire product catalogue and inventory was purchased by Gibson’s Chicago Musical Instruments for 20,000 US Dollars. Epiphone has been a daughter company of the Gibson Guitar Corporation and has been benefiting from the exclusive use of their patents ever since.
