Sennheiser HD 300 PRO Closed headphones

Having recently replaced the headphones that I use for editing and mixing with a pair of Sennheiser HD 650s, which are astonishingly good, I decided to upgrade my recording headphones from the Beyerdynamic DT-220s that I bought in the 1980s.

I chose these headphones, the HD 300 Pro, because:

1. The sound isolation is good (c. 31dB).
2. The ear pads are the same general design as the HD650s (i.e. they go around my ear, not against it as the DT-220s used to which always caused me pain after an hour or so),
3. The audio performance was reported in the reviews to be very accurate.

I've only had them a week, and they've already proved themselves to be ideal for what I want: they enable me to record acoustic instruments with no 'bleed-through' from the monitor headphones to the open mic, without having to have an over loud monitor mix, and with the microphone signal (as opposed to the 'actual' sound of the instrument in the room) accurately audible. And they were comfortable - even after an hour of continuous playing.

People have complained about the 1.5m lead being short, but I found this not be the case as it avoids the lead getting in the way underfoot.

In a word: perfect. And, taking into account also the build quality, which is way above average, they are a good price.

The headphones sound really good, as I expected, and they are quite balanced in terms of frequency response - very close to the HD 280 Pros. Very good isolation as well. I do have to say though, build quality is not as good as my old HD25 or the HD280 Pros

i tried out 4 pairs of Sennhieser Headphones and these are the best. The HD300 are also good and i use those for the computer or general listening but the HD300 pro have a noticeably higher frequency range, for example i listened to one tune on the HD300 and but could only hear the Tambourine when using the HD300pro (i do have hearing loss). The HD250 pro i found unusable as the cord was uncomfortably heavy and the weight pulled on one ear all the time , the HD200 were the worst in terms of sound quality. i like the HD300 a lot but to really hear everything you need the HD300 PRO

Arrived ahead of estimated delivery. I purchased these to replace an ageing pair of HD 250 Linear II. While the difference in impedance has made a difference to the monitoring experience, I can honestly say this model is excellent. The sound is much more present, balanced and focused. Highly recommend.
