First time I sweetened my guitars and they sound truly fantastic.
It is a great tool for playing the violin as it helps to provide you the right pitch in truly real time.
Purchased primarily for keeping my Fender Rhodes in tune. While it seems to be aimed at the guitar market, it is equally well suited to other tunable fixed pitch (e.g. keyboard) instruments. Numerous temperaments and 'Sweeteners' (a Peterson-registered term for custom tunings) are loaded as standard, including a Rhodes stretch tuning scheme (which differs from string piano stretches - also provided - due to the inharmonicities specific to tine-based instruments). Of no real use for digital piano or synth, since those instruments generally do not permit individual notes to be user-retuned; but you can still use the StroboPlus to check the accuracy of the programmed intonations and to adjust the A (440Hz or whatever) reference frequency. Of course, it can also be used for wind instruments; but the challenge there is that one's chops (and ears) must be able consistently to maintain a steady pitch on each note, and the precision of any good strobe tuner in that context is arguably of no more value than a well-trained ear.
In short, this is a fabulous piece of kit. Build quality is superb, the display clear, and it is easy and straightforward to use. The instruction book (yes - a printed booklet) is written in lucid English, but basic use is anyway more-or-less intuitive. After 5 minutes' operation I found myself wondering how I had ever managed without one. Obviously, more expensive than most clip-on quartz tuners (still useful for checking accuracy of blowing with my soprano saxophone - a notoriously 'bendy' instrument), but the StroboPlus is in a different class. Highly recommended.
The Peterson StroboPlus tuner is for me a godsend. I play guitar, Ukulele, Lute and Orpharion. The last two offer not only non standard tuning but at a different pitch, they also have 15 stings.... The beauty of this tuner is that it has the ability to listen to the struck string, tell you what the note is and if it is in tune and at what pitch the string is. It is also the most accurate tuner that I have used. Most good clip ons go down to 0.1% accuracy, the Peterson however goes down to 0.001%. There are also "sweet" settings for various keys to tweak the tunings. If happy with that particular tuning you can then set it as a preset to easily find it for your next session.
The tuner is chromatic and is useable with Orchestral instruments. This is a useful feature if you are playing with a horn section or saxophones. You could also use it to see if you are playing in tune with a fretless instrument like a fretless Bass or violin. This feature is particularly useful in the beginner stages.
In use the tuner is very simple to use. You simply play a note and the screen diagram will mover to the left meaning that you are flat, a move to the right means you are sharp and you've guessed it, if it stops moving you are in tune. The faster the sideways movements the more out of tune you are. It is recommended to register the product on the Peterson website. This will keep your tuner updated, also you could buy the Metronome download if so desired. There is also quite a few instruction film clips to help you master the device. All in all highly recommended.
this was returned but when I received it I got a lovely surprise the person who previously owned this item had upgraded it after purchasing the metronome woot
