Harrison Comp

The typical Harrison sound in a compact module

  • classic Harrison sound with musical, unobtrusive dynamic processing
  • Flexible use from transparent leveling to clearly audible character compression
  • Feed Forward compressor design for precise and controlled regulation
  • THAT 2180 VCA ensures clean analog performance with simultaneous sound character
  • program-dependent Attack automatically responds to the input signal in a meaningful way
  • infinitely variable Release enables fine-tuned compression timing
  • ideal for smoothing vocals, guitars and other dynamic signals
  • also suitable for powerful processing of drums and Bass with more energy in the mix
  • Fast workflow thanks to clear controls without unnecessary complexity
  • Gain reduction display for direct visual control of the compression
  • Makeup gain to compensate for level loss after compression
  • IN switch for direct A B comparison between processed and unprocessed signal
  • Input overload LED for quick detection of overloads
  • Compatible with all common API 500 series racks

Analog control with a musical feel

The Harrison Comp 500 Series delivers exactly what you know from classic Harrison consoles: musical dynamics processing that doesn't get in the way, but carries the sound. This approach has shaped countless productions for decades and it is precisely this behavior that is now packed into a compact 500 Series module.

In everyday life, this means: you place it on a track, adjust it and suddenly the signal simply sits better in the mix. Vocals become stable, guitars are more defined, drums get more punch without sounding artificial.

From subtle leveling to a real vibe

The strength of the Harrison Comp lies in its bandwidth. With a low ratio and fast Release it works like a classic leveler. 2 to 3 dB gain reduction is often enough to make a signal appear calmer and more even.

If you turn the ratio up and let the Release run slower, the whole thing tilts in a clearly audible direction. Then control becomes character. Especially on drums or Bass, this slightly saturated, dense sound is created, which moves forward and brings energy. It is precisely this flexibility that quickly makes it an integral part of the signal chain in the studio.

Classic design, modern precision

Technically, the comp is based on a classic feed-forward design with THAT 2180 VCA. This ensures clean, precise control and at the same time the familiar analog character.

The attack is program-dependent. This means that the compressor automatically reacts to the input signal in a meaningful way without you having to constantly readjust it. The release is infinitely variable and gives you control over the timing of the compression.

Together with Threshold, Ratio and Makeup Gain, you have everything you need to shape or subtly smooth dynamics.

Workflow that simply works

The Harrison Comp is deliberately kept uncomplicated. No overloaded circus of features, but a clearly structured signal flow. Set Threshold, select ratio, adjust Release, done.

The gain reduction meter shows you directly what is happening, while you can quickly switch between processed and unprocessed signal via the IN switch. So you can immediately hear whether you have really improved something.

Thanks to the API 500 format, the module fits into all standard lunchboxes and can be integrated into existing setups in a versatile manner.
