Steinberg is launching the third edition of Dorico Pro, offering numerous improvements as well as a range of new and practical features within the music notation software environment. These now include functions such as creating score excerpts, tablature, guitar notation, playback templates, intelligent pedal notation for the harp and more. Also new is the included Olympus Choir Micro Library – a sound library featuring a playable choir from Soundiron, one of the world’s leading producers of sample libraries.
In general, Dorico Pro remains just as efficient for composing, learning and publishing as ever. The intuitive workflow ensures quick results even for beginners and those switching from other programmes, whilst hundreds of advanced notations, functions, options and sounds await them.

Dorico 3 raises the bar for music notation software yet again: only with this software can you create conductor’s scores with just a single click. It also includes powerful features for guitar and harp, well-designed new playback controls and much more, all embedded within a newly redesigned, elegant and effective user interface
In the conductor’s score, music for multiple musicians is condensed onto a smaller number of staves, thereby reducing the number of staves on each page. The staves can be displayed larger, improving readability. Creating a conductor’s score used to be a very laborious and time-consuming task. The process required a great deal of planning and numerous revisions, and was hardly supported at all by notation software – until now. With Dorico 3, you can now create an intelligently formatted conductor’s score with just one click, without losing the full instrumental parts. Profound changes in the productivity of music notation software perhaps occur once a decade: this is one of them.
Dorico 3 makes it easier to work with third-party sound libraries and virtual instruments thanks to custom playback templates. Once you have set up playback for a specific virtual instrument in a project, you can now save this configuration as a template to use in future projects. Create a custom template that includes your favourite virtual piano, uses strings from your favourite orchestral library, and falls back on the included HALion Symphonic Orchestra sounds for everything else. Share your saved configurations with colleagues and other users simply via drag and drop. With the enhanced features for VST Expression Maps, it’s also easier to make the most of all the advanced techniques offered by your favourite sample libraries.
We are delighted to be collaborating with Soundiron, one of the world’s leading producers of sample libraries and virtual instruments. Soundiron’s acclaimed choir library, Olympus Choir Micro, now runs in HALion Sonic SE and is included in Dorico 3. It features an expressive mixed choir with two syllables (“ooh” and “ah”). If you like the sounds of Olympus Choir Micro, you can look forward to Olympus Elements, an expanded version that Soundiron will be releasing for HALion shortly.
Even composers and arrangers who are familiar with the technical aspects of writing for the harp will welcome the new intelligent pedal features in Dorico 3. Ensure that the music you write makes sense to the harpist by letting Dorico calculate which pedal settings are required. Any notes that cannot be played by the pedals are automatically displayed in red. Quickly add your own pedal markings. Choose from different display options, either using a diagram or note names for each pedal, which are positioned automatically. In the settings, you can specify whether they are displayed in the score, in the harp part, or in both.
