The Hotone Ampero is a powerful amp and effects modeler that convinces with its compact format and convenient operation via the 4" touch screen. Based on a powerful SHARC Dual DSP, the combination of Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling High Definition (CDCM HD) and Field Impulse Response Enhancement (F.I.R.E.) delivers natural sound experiences for electric guitar, bass and acoustic instruments as well as keyboards and synthesizers. In addition, an integrated looper and drum machine are available. In addition to unbalanced and balanced stereo outputs, the Hotone Ampero also has a USB port for the integrated audio interface or firmware updates and a MIDI in. An expression pedal, aux-in and headphone jack complete the Hotone MP-100 Ampero Modeling Floorboard.
The heart of the Hotone Ampero is undoubtedly the powerful SHARC Dual-DSP analog device, which provides more than enough processing power for the particularly natural sounds of the sophisticated Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling High Definition (CDCM HD) and Field Impulse Response Enhanced (F.I.R.E.) engines. The Hotone Ampero also features a large 4" touchscreen for easy and intuitive operation, allowing you to edit effect chains and settings as you would on a smartphone or tablet. In addition, three DeepL access controllers provide quick access, which can be used to set certain parameters directly.
The input jack of the Hotone MP-100 Ampero has three switchable input modes, which allow the effects unit to be optimally adapted to electric guitars, electric basses, acoustic guitars or keyboards and synthesizers with line level. The Modeling Floorboard provides a total of 64 natural-sounding amp simulations, based on well-known amp classics and covering every range between crystal-clear clean sounds and brute high-gain distortion. The amp models can also be combined with 60 loudspeaker simulations and 100 effects, including classics such as Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Overdrive and Wah as well as compressors, ring modulators and Bit Crusher. The expression pedal allows you to control certain effects parameters during the song.
In addition to its comprehensive range of amp, speaker and effects simulations, the Hotone MP-100 Ampero also features an integrated looper that allows you to record and play back a wide variety of backing tracks with 100 seconds of recording time in mono or 50 seconds in stereo mode. The Drum Machine 100, which is also on board, provides different rhythm patterns from the most common music genres. In addition, the Hotone Ampero is equipped with a chromatic tuner, which puts the instrument into the right tuning in no time at all.
Last but not least, the Hotone Ampero convinces with an extensive connection periphery, which makes it an all-rounder for almost any application on stage, in the recording studio or the home living room. While the unbalanced stereo outputs are intended for passing on the signal to guitar amplifiers, the balanced XLR stereo outputs allow direct connection to a mixing console, active monitors or recording equipment. A USB port is also provided for use of the internal audio interface with a DAW or the free editor software. A MIDI input, a port for a second, optional expression pedal, aux-in and headphone jack complete the Hotone Ampero modeling processor.
Hotone AmperoI think this is a fantastic pedal. I haven't fully explored the features yet but so far I have found it easy to use and it sounds great. I chose this over the Headrush Gigboard and the HX Stomp largely because of the balanced XLR ouputs, the price difference and decent reviews which made me think it was potentially better than both other pedals - and for my purposes it is.
I compared the sounds of Fender cleans to a HX Stomp and definitely think it sounds as good, if not better. The touch screen is great and the whole unit feels very high end.
The only thing I have noticed so far which is a small negative is using the HOLD function of a footswitch momentarily changes to another patch before fulfilling its intended function. (Example: If you are on a clean patch and footswitch 2 is set up as TAP for a distorted patch or HOLD for a wah effect, as you press the pedal and hold you hear the distorted patch for half a second before it goes back to the clean patch with a wah.) This could be pretty annoying but you can work round it by arranging your patches differently. I wonder if future firmware updates could rectify this.
The other thing that could be a deal breaker for some people is that it has fewer parameters than the HR or HX, e.g. no SAG or BIAS control as far as I can tell. For me, that would be too much anyway. Being able to change cab, mic and mic position is more than enough for me.
DV store shipped it quickly from Germany to me in the UK but it came with a European adaptor. I emailed them twice but have had no reply, so ended up buying an adaptor on Amazon. Therefore I cannot recommend their customer service. How hard is it to send a UK plug to UK customers? When the majority of your products are electronics it's a pretty fundamental oversight.
