The Cassotto is a special construction feature in accordions that alters the tonal character of certain registers. In a Cassotto accordion, some of the reed plates are housed in a wooden chamber (the Cassotto). This chamber dampens and modifies the sound, resulting in a warmer, rounder tone with fewer overtones. Cassotto registers are often used for solo and orchestral playing, as they offer a particularly expressive and singing tone. Only selected high-end accordions feature a Cassotto.
