With Grainferno , Baby Audio presents a granular synthesiser that doesn’t just warp samples, but transforms them into entirely new instruments. Tiny audio particles give rise to pads, drones, synth layers, rhythmic textures or controlled chaos. This doesn’t sound like standard granular synthesis, but rather like a tool that takes you away from familiar sounds and leads you straight to fresh sonic material.
The key feature here is that any audio file can become a synth voice. Grainferno breaks your material down into microscopic fragments, reassembles it and turns it into playable sounds that fit neatly into the song in terms of pitch. This means that a field recording, a vocal track or a drum loop suddenly becomes an instrument with its own character.
Grainferno utilises a modern grain engine capable of generating grains at such high speeds that they transition into the audio domain. At this point , grains no longer behave merely as texture, but as oscillators. This is precisely what gives the plug-in its special appeal: you use real audio material as raw material, yet get the feel of playing a synthesiser.
Even when Grainferno operates tonally, a part of the original sample is always retained in the sound. This spectral signature makes the results exciting, distinctive and often significantly more lifelike than classic synth sounds.

Cross-modulation between modulators is also possible. This allows you to build sounds that are constantly changing, yet remain musically controllable. This makes Grainferno not just an effects tool, but a genuine platform for modern sound design.
Grainferno doesn’t just shape the sound at the end of the chain, but right at the level of each individual grain. With tools such as G-Filter, G-Comp and G-Blur, you can edit every fragment the moment it’s created.
This results in sounds that feel different from classic synthesis or standard sample processing. From soft ambient pads to unstable drones and aggressive digital grit, the possibilities here are vast.
The integrated effects section is not intended as a simple post-processing tool, but as an integral part of the instrument itself. Reverb, delay, modulation and saturation not only help to refine the sound, but are an integral part of the sound design. A particular highlight is the freely configurable effects chain, which allows the behaviour of the sound to be shaped with great precision.
This makes Grainferno a creative hub for producers who want to turn existing samples into something of their own.
So you don’t have to start from scratch, Grainferno comes with a large sound library right out of the box. Included are 325 presets and 378 royalty-free samples, which serve as raw material for the grain engine. There are also six templates that let you try out different applications of granular synthesis straight away.
