With the Fender 1961 Stratocaster SHRL RW Aged Magenta Sparkle over 3-Colour Sunburst, the long-established manufacturer draws on the design of an early ’60s Stratocaster and combines it with modern features for a comfortable playing experience. The ash body, finished in a striking Aged Magenta Sparkle over 3-Colour Sunburst, is undoubtedly the highlight of the instrument, whilst a Vintage Modified #2 circuit lies beneath the top. The three Custom Shop Fat ’60s single-coil pickups deliver the unmistakable Stratocaster sound and, with their brilliant trebles, offer the perfect tone for genres ranging from blues to rock. The instrument is rounded off by a bolt-on quarter-sawn maple neck with a ‘60s Oval C’ profile, whose 9.5-inch fingerboard radius and 21 narrow tall frets combine a traditional look with contemporary playability.
The three Custom Shop Fat '60s Single Coils, which are tonally modelled on early 1960s models. As well as offering brilliant trebles, they impress with defined mids and a direct response, whilst retaining their transparency even at higher gain settings. Via the Vintage Modified #2 electronics and the 5-way switch, all the classic Stratocaster switching positions are available, ranging from bell-like clean tones through the characteristic middle-position sound to assertive lead tones.
Authentic Sixties hardware
Fender remains true to the traditional design philosophy in the rest of the specification too. A 6-saddle vintage-style tremolo, vintage-style tuning machines and a bone nut ensure the familiar playing feel of a classic Stratocaster, whilst also contributing to reliable tuning stability. Like all instruments in the Fender Custom Shop series, this 1961 Stratocaster is also manufactured in the USA and comes complete with a matching Custom Shop case and a certificate of authenticity.
