The Fender Eric Clapton Signature Stratocaster NOS brings the British virtuoso guitarist’s personal specifications to life in a high-quality Custom Shop model. It is based on a selected alder body in the classic Stratocaster design, combined with a one-piece maple neck featuring the characteristic Soft-V profile. The moderate 9.5-inch fingerboard radius, 22 vintage-style frets and the traditional 25.5-inch scale length combine that familiar Strat feel with details tailored to Clapton’s playing style. The black finish is complemented by a single-ply white pickguard and classic nickel/chrome hardware, giving this Custom Shop Signature Stratocaster the authentic look of the genuine ‘Blackie ’. Three Noiseless single-coil pickups deliver the distinctive sound that Eric Clapton brings to the stage in every nuance with his unique style, whilst the special TBX electronics, including an active mid-boost, allow for a wide range of tonal variations.
The specially designed electronics of the Signature Stratocaster play a central role. Three Fender Vintage Noiseless Single Coils deliver classic Strat tones with a significantly reduced level of background noise and are selected via the traditional 5-way blade switch. In addition to the master volume control, the TBX tone control is available, whilst the active mid boost allows the mid-range to be boosted by up to 25 dB. This allows the comparatively lean character of the single-coil pickups to be significantly thickened where required, shaping them into powerful, assertive lead tones.
The hardware also reflects Clapton’s personal preferences. The American Vintage Synchronised Tremolo is locked in place ex-works, effectively functioning as a fixed bridge, whilst vintage-style tuning machines and a synthetic bone nut complete the traditional specification. The satin-finished urethane surface of the Soft-V maple neck ensures a smooth playing experience. Finally, Clapton’s signature on the headstock identifies the Custom Artist model as his personal interpretation of the Stratocaster, whilst a deluxe hardshell case, strap and certificate of authenticity are included as standard.
