Based on the Bree6 Desktop the Argentinian manufacturer GS Music has gone one better with the compact keyboard version. The 6-voice polyphonic analog synthesizer impresses with its familiar sound and straightforward operation. Anyone who likes the structure and straightforward sound of old Roland Juno synthesizers will find something comparable in the Bree6, which is not and does not want to be a clone and simply sounds convincingly good. The OLED Display also functions as an oscilloscope and displays the waveform of the oscillator, the progression of the envelopes and the effects. The 512 presets, which can be overwritten at will, are joined by Panel Mode; as soon as this is activated, the sound corresponds to the current controller settings. Thanks to the complete MIDI implementation including MPE, the Bree6 can be automated by any DAW or master sequencer.
The keyboard version...
...framed with stylish wooden side panels - offers a semi-weighted 37-key keyboard with Velocity and monophonic aftertouch, including handwheels for pitch bend and modulation and transpose keys.
An arpeggiator with the usual Up, Down, and & Down and Random modes, octave range and divider is also integrated. This Arpeggiator has a special feature that sets it apart from most others: the Double/Triple button arpeggiates 2 or 3 notes at the same time instead of the usual one. The arpeggiator settings are saved in the Patch.
The polyphonic step sequencer is independent of the patches; this has the advantage that you can use the same sequence for other sounds. A total of 64 patterns can be stored, which can have a length of up to 400 notes. With 6 notes per step in a 2 bar pattern, 192 notes can be stored.
The voice architecture
A Bree6 voice consists of an oscillator that generates the sawtooth and/or square waveforms with PWM and a switchable sub-oscillator, an excellent-sounding 24 dB lowpass filter and a modulatable VCA. The two well-scaled ADSR envelopes are permanently assigned to the filter and VCA. There is also an LFO with 5 waveforms and a handful of modulation assignments for velocity, Aftertouch and the modulation wheel in the menu. The voices can be played polyphonically, polyphonically with dynamic voice distribution in the panorama, monophonically or Unisono. The Detune knob provides super-fat sounds with radiance, especially in Unisono mode!
Chorus and Delay for the final touch
With Chorus and Delay, the effects section is clearly laid out, but the sound is very balanced and not too thick. The chorus effect gets by with just one control and embeds the sound in slightly wafting interweavings. The delay effect comes into its own even without tempo synchronization and blends in well with dub techno and sounds with a slightly dystopian note.
