Glockenklang 2 Band ElektronicsThe pre-amp in my 20 year old Yamaha bass broke down. The only fitting replacement I could find fast was this Glockenklang. It fit perfectly, is noiseless and works perfectly.
It did change the sound of the bass slightly, but only for the better.
I must admit I am not a big supporter of active electronics for bass as I think the should becomes artificially treblish and crispy. Nevertheless , I wanted to update the electronics and pickups of my Cort GB74 JH. Given that the bass has 4 holes for pots I thought I could give the Glockenklang preamp a try.
I installed it along with Delano pickups, following Gregor Fris suggestion in the video review for the bass. I must say that the preamp retains the natural sound of the pickups in active mode and has a usable passive tone control. What made me love this preamp is that in active mode you don't get any volume bump , which is usually expected with active electronics. Moreover the boost and cut have a very natural voicing , resembling amplike eq. This preamp made me reconsider active electronics.
Installation is relateively simple if you have soldered cables in the past , (around 5-6 solder joints were required) . Most of the pots and connections between them are pre-soldered. The cables are thin and flexible but seem to be very reliable. The pcb also seems to be very substantial.
Overall extremely satisfied. Highly suggest this as an aftermarket preamp !
