Thanks to its okoumé body in the characteristic, flowing Soundgear design, the SR300EDX bass nestles comfortably against the player, providing a stable playing position whether sitting with the instrument on the lap or standing with it slung over the shoulder. The four-bolt neck is crafted from five pieces of maple and walnut; the flat ‘SR4’ profile sits comfortably in the hand, whilst the jatoba fingerboard makes it easy to play fast basslines and complex grooves with ease.
The Standard SR300EDX-FDM Frozen Gold Matte features Ibanez PowerSpan dual-coil pickups, developed specifically for this bass, which, in combination with the active Ibanez Custom Electronics 3-band tone control, cover a wide range of sounds. Whether it’s transparent solo and jazz tones, a gritty rock growl or rich, punchy bass from the deepest registers, this four-string always has the right setting for every style and reproduces even lower tunings with precision.
Another distinctive feature of the Ibanez SR300EDX-FDM Frozen Gold Matte bass guitar is the Power-Tap switch, which switches the coils of both humbuckers from the powerful series configuration to tap or PowerTap mode. Whilst the former delivers authentic single-coil sounds with their characteristic clarity and tone definition, the latter complements this tonal profile with a fundamental bass component.
Last but not least, Ibanez equips the Standard SR300EDX-FDM Frozen Gold Matte with reliable hardware in an elegant gold finish. On the body side, the strings are anchored by the tried-and-tested Accu-Cast B500 bridge, whose solid construction supports the bass guitar’s sustain-rich tone. The saddles, which can be individually adjusted for intonation and string action, offer a string spacing of 19 mm, providing ample room for clean picking even when playing vigorously, whilst the top-loading ball ends make changing strings significantly easier.
