The SPL Phonitor se + DAC768xs is the most affordable model of the proven Phonitor headphone amplifier. It works with the same amplifier circuit, a Phonitor matrix and can also be equipped with a DAC card with PCM, S/PDIF and ADAT inputs.
The VOLTAiR technology developed by SPL works with special, discrete operational amplifiers that can handle an operating voltage of 120V. This corresponds to approximately twice the voltage that can be expected from commercially available opamps. Due to the high operating voltage, the signal-to-noise ratio and total distortion can be improved by a factor of approx. 4.5 (13 dB) and are on a par with the values measured on an industrial-quality signal generator
The Phonitor se's power amplifier delivers up to 5W output power on each channel at the headphone output. This means that not only very high-impedance headphones (>600Ohm) can be operated, but also extremely sophisticated models with magnetostatic or electrostatic transducers. Not only can you experience your music at any volume on any headphone model, you can also turn down the volume control and achieve an even lower noise level
Like the other models in the Phonitor series, the Phonitor se is equipped with the Phonitor Matrix. This purely analog circuit simulates the surround sound of a pair of speakers set up in a perfect stereo triangle. Depending on the setting, corresponding portions of the opposite channel are added to the left and right channels with frequency correction, faithfully simulating the natural cross-talk between the left and right ear when listening in a real room. You must have heard it, the effect is truly amazing! With the Phonitor se, this matrix is available to you in the form of 2 presets.
With the factory-installed DAC768xs digital-to-analog converter, the Phonitor se is expanded to include the common digital formats S/PDIF and ADAT and also allows the connection of PC, Mac and Apple devices via USB. The converter card has been specially redesigned for the Phonitor se and resolves PCM audio up to 768kHz at 32bit dynamic depth. Direc Stream Digital is also recognized and supported with a resolution of DSD4 and DSD256 respectively. This means that even the finest sound details are accurately reproduced - more accurately than in some mastering studios!
