Description

wave shaper

Malgorithm MKII is the long-awaited reissue of the world's first voltage-controlled Bitcrusher, which now works in high-resolution stereo and offers extended control options.

Bitcrusher 101
The Bitcrusher is an essential tool that should not be missing in any modular collection, as foreign signals can be converted and integrated into your synthesis context. This is achieved primarily by the controlled reduction of two signal parameters called "Bit Depth" and "Sampling Rate" (called "Nyquist" on the module).

Voltage controlled bit depth
reduction
The bit depth reduction effectively reduces the dynamic range of a signal by eliminating the less significant bits from the audio signal, gradually destroying the finer details and increasingly rasterizing the waveform in steps until they end up in a square wave. Ordinary bit crushers process the bit depth in whole steps, resulting in a choppy and discontinuous control over the sound process. Malgorithm is the first module to offer a continuous, finer resolution bit depth reduction, giving the user full control over dynamic transformation. The control of the bit depth reduction can be controlled manually or via CV.

Aliasing? yes gladly!
The sampling rate reduces the sampling rate within the painting algorithm, resulting in aliasing artifacts and halving the sampling rate (Nyquist Limit). The result sounds like a mixture of filtering and ring modulation. This extreme manipulation of the spectral components of a signal is particularly suitable for modulations in the audio-rate range, making research into new sounds far removed from conventional synthesis techniques feasible.

Digital destruction ahead!
After these two stages have been completed, the signal passes alternatively a waveshaper. The signal is now subjected to four rounds of digital destruction, represented and controlled by four brightly lit buttons. Among them are crazy octavations, self-oscillating logig disasters and harmonic rich waveform creases, which can be driven in 256 different combinations.

Voltage controlled Wet/Dry control:
A CV controllable Wet/Dry Mix control determines the ratio between the destroyed and pure input signal and the input level can also be controlled via CV, which makes it auxiliary VCA and allows dynamic wavefolder effects. With more blatant waveshaper settings, the signals of the left and right channels influence each other, resulting in bizarre effects depending on the mutual correlation. Malgorithm now offers full stereo I/O to integrate the integration into your stereo Mix bus.

Features:

  • 48Khz, 16 bit STEREO processing
  • Bit depth reduction is now continuous, without steps, get in-between the bits!
