The Tascam IF-AE16 expands compatible recorders and audio systems to 16 digital AES/EBU inputs and outputs and is aimed at professional studio, broadcast and installation applications. The expansion card uses the Tascam Expansion Slot System and can be integrated into the DA-6400 and DA-6400dp, among others.
A total of 16 input and 16 output channels are available via two 25-pin D-sub connectors. The pin assignment complies with the AES59-2012 standard, also known as the TASCAM standard. This allows the card to be easily integrated into existing digital production environments. It supports uncompressed digital audio signals with up to 24 bits at 44.1, 48, 88.2 and 96 kHz.
The integrated sample rate converter for the inputs is particularly practical for everyday studio use. Each input pair can be processed independently, making it much easier to combine digital sources with different sample rates. Input frequencies from 32 to 192 kHz are supported. In addition to AES/EBU, the IF-AE16 also processes SPDIF input data formats.
This makes the card interesting for complex recording environments, digital routing systems or older generations of devices that work with different clock settings.
Signal transmission is via AES/EBU D-Sub multicore connections and supports double-speed operation at 88.2 and 96 kHz. Tascam recommends the use of shielded AES/EBU multicore cables to minimize electromagnetic interference.
