The Z3000 MKII from Tiptop Audio is an analog voltage controlled oscillator with four waveforms, pulse width modulation and hard sync modulation. The smart VCO also features a digital pulse counter. In the Z3000MKII's three modes (Frequency Mode, Musical Note Mode, Octave Mode), the display shows pitch information in the form of frequencies, notes or octaves.
Tiptop Audio has created a smart VCO with the Z3000 MKII, which brings new possibilities of complex sound synthesis into the analog sound world. In addition, it simplifies the setup of multi-oscillator voices by pitch inversions. You can choose between Frequency Mode, Musical Mode and Octave Mode. The mode is selected via the Mode Switch.
In Frequency Mode, the display of the Z3000 MKII shows the frequency of the VCO. When the display turns on, it shows the start of a new wave. This is a useful tool especially in the low frequency range when the VCO is used as a clock generator or LFO.
When the Z300MKII is in Musical Note Mode, the frequency of the oscillator is compared with stored note values. When the frequency of the VCO approaches a known frequency, the display shows the corresponding note. Otherwise, only the frequency is displayed.
The Z3000 MKII's Octave Mode improves the functionality of a simple mechanical octave switch. With an ordinary VCO in the modular system, the connection between a key pressed on a keyboard and the tone actually heard can only be established with a reference to a known pitch. The Z3000 MKII offers a fast and efficient solution. For example, if the pitch approaches a C of any octave, the display shows how close you are to a defined C.
