With the Gibson ES-Les Paul Gold Top P-90 Bigsby, the Gibson Memphis Division presents a unique semi-hollow electric guitar that combines the design features of the semi-acoustic Gibson ES models with the design of the most legendary of all electric guitars into a harmonious overall concept. This Gibson ES-Les Paul is based on the legendary 1956 Goldtops and comes accordingly with two P-90 single coil pickups, and a Bigsby vibrato system.
The Gibson ES-Les Paul Gold Top P-90 Bigsby follows the semi-acoustic Gibson ES models in its construction. The single cut body is made of a three-layer maple/poplar laminate, whereby top and back are connected via a solid mahogany centre block. Thus the electric guitar delivers a warm basic sound with an audible resonance timbre, at the same time it is insensitive to feedback at high volumes. In addition, the powerful mahogany neck with "Rounded C" profile fits snugly and comfortably in the hand, so that playing the guitar with classical riffs and licks nothing stands in the way.
The Gibson P-90 single coil pickups with cream-colored soapbar housings are used for the electric tone conversion of the Gibson ES-Les Paul Gold Top in the neck and bridge position. Equipped with 8500 windings on the coil and classic Alnico magnets, the pickups deliver an authentic vintage sound image that captures the striking timbresound of the half resonance construction with natural dynamics and transmits it to the amplifier. Accordingly, chords or single notes with lively highs and vocal mids are harmoniously reproduced in the clean channel, while solos sing in the overdrive channel and chords with lush articulation burst out of the loudspeakers. The pickups are managed by the typical Gibson circuit with 3-way toggle switch, two volume and two tone controls.
High-quality hardware with a classic look completes the equipment of the Gibson ES-Les Paul Gold Top. The strings are held on the body by the classic Bigsby B-7 vibrato, with which gently shimmering tone modulation can be produced for harmonious stimulation of the tones played. From there the strings run over a classic Gibson ABR Tune-O-Matic bridge, which is equipped with titanium string riders as a tribute to modernity. These support the distinctive guitar sound with a radiant overtone spectrum and promote an even tone development. After a scale length of 628 mm, the strings first hit the bone saddle before ending on Kluson tuners, which guarantee a perfect tuning even with frequent Bigsby use and underline the authentic vintage look with their Single Ring Tulip grand pianos.
