The KRK Rokit 5 RP5 G3 SE is an active studio monitor from the remarkable Rokit Generation 3. This powered studio monitor offers a professional performance and accuracy at all times for recording, mixing, mastering and playback applications. The Rokit 5 RP5 G3 is equipped with a 1” soft dome tweeter and a 5” glass-Aramid composite woofer. Delivering high frequencies up to 35 kHz, vocal clarity and extended bass response, this monitor features the proprietary bi-amped, class A/B amplifier that grants SPL up to 106dB.
The ROKIT waveguide is designed to ensure detailed imaging in the listening position whilst the front-firing bass port reduces boundary coupling to allow flexible positioning in the room. Multiple audio input connectors (XLR, 1/4”, RCA) offer universal connectivity for any studio environment. Radiused edges reduce distortion from diffraction and a low-resonance enclosure offers minimised distortion and colourisation. A factory installed foam pad provides isolation between the speaker and surface.
Nicely build with almost mirror white surface, which is not obvious from the pictures. The sounds way clearer than of the regular home speakers. Lows above 60hz are translated distinctively, although sub lows are present too, I even preferred to manually cut them by 1db (also due to the lack of acoustic treatment in the room). Low mids sound ok to me, while higher frequences are pretty muddy. Seem to really lack upper mids, although you can boost hf, but that doesnt effect mids much.
Would advice to use XLR input and zero volume boost (used them with Focusrite Scarlett 2i4).
Conclusion: can and should be used for low budget electronic music mixing in acoustically untreated rooms.
I've recently ordered my KRK rokit 5's and I couldn't be happier. They're compact but the pack a punch, the design's great and the price is awesome. Really looking forward to using them a lot more now
