The Yamaha EAD20 combines the pickup of an acoustic drum kit with the capabilities of a modern drum module. The compact sensor unit is attached directly to the bass drum’s hoop and captures the sound of the entire kit. At the same time, the integrated kick trigger detects the strikes on the bass drum. A complex microphone setup involving multiple stands, cables and individual microphones is not required for basic use.
The recorded signal is processed within the module and can be combined with effects, trigger samples and playbacks. This allows you to shape the natural sound of the drum kit precisely or enhance it with electronic sounds. The system is suitable for both a classic acoustic kit and hybrid configurations featuring additional drum triggers, electronic pads or percussion instruments.

For daily practice, the module provides a carefully balanced mix of acoustic drum sounds and backing tracks. This allows you to play along with songs and monitor the details of your own playing through headphones. The built-in recording functions enable quick recordings without the need to set up a full studio environment beforehand.
In conjunction with the Yamaha Rec’n’Share app, drum videos can also be produced using a smartphone or tablet. The app captures the audio signal from the module and combines it with the image from the built-in camera. A playing backing track can also be incorporated into the recording. This makes the system ideal for playthroughs, tutorial videos, social media content and documenting practice sessions.

Up to nine trigger inputs allow the setup to be expanded with additional triggers and pads. This enables the snare, toms or other instruments to be controlled separately and supplemented with their own sounds or layers. The trigger expansion is optional, as the sensor unit and integrated kick trigger already provide a straightforward starting point.
The USB audio interface provides eight input and ten output channels. MIDI, additional inputs and outputs, and flexible routing functions facilitate integration into recording software, live set-ups and hybrid drum configurations. Three freely assignable modifier controls offer direct access to key sound parameters. The EAD Touch app is also available for graphical control and advanced settings.
