With the Gibson Les Paul Pete Townshend Deluxe Gold Top '76, the American manufacturer presents a signature electric guitar that is faithfully oriented to the Mid Seventies Les Paul of The Who guitarist. This classically designed Les Paul is equipped with two mini humbuckers and a DiMarzio Super Distortion, which promise a broad sound spectrum.
As a reissue of a'76 Les Paul Deluxe, the Gibson Les Paul Pete Townshend Deluxe Gold Top'76 naturally follows the specifications of that time. Accordingly, the body is made of mahogany and is provided with a 7-hole weight relief to reduce weight, while the top is joined from two parts maple. The three-piece mahogany neck wears a rosewood fingerboard and offers with the classic "Rounded" profile a handy basis for classic riffs and licks. The traditional Gold Top finish also gives the guitar an authentic vintage look.
Just like Pete Townshends Original, the Gibson Les Paul Pete Townshend Deluxe Gold Top'76 is equipped with three pickups. Mini humbuckers sit in neck and bridge position, which promise a brilliant sound with their narrow magnetic field. In the middle, however, the DiMarzio DP100 Super Distortion is a powerful humbucker whose distinctive sound mainly characterizes strongly distorted riffs and solos.
The elaborate circuitry of the Gibson Les Paul Pete Townshend Deluxe Gold Top '76 allows a wide spectrum of different sound nuances to be called up. The Mini Humbuckers are managed by 3-way toggle, individual volume controls and a master tone control. For the DiMarzio Super Distortion there is also a separate 3-way switch that can switch the humbucker on and off or split for authentic single coil sounds. Additionally, a blend control is available for this pickup.
