Synthrotek MST Noise, Sample & Hold has everything you need to generate random voltages: classic sample & hold and the rather rare track & hold. As a noise generator, the Eurorack module generates white and pink noise as well as slow random noise. Random voltages are a classical means of expression in electronic music. You can create chaotic and wild modulations, which are often used at pitch and e.g. filter cutoff. Since this modulation is clock-controlled, rhythmic modulations can also be generated, which can have a very organic effect as a groove component of electronic beats.
A toggle switch switches the mode from Sample & Hold to Track & Hold. The signal applied to the input is stored at a certain time and output at the output until a new sample value is stored with the next clock pulse. The sample time is determined by a trigger or gate signal applied to the Clock IN. Typical for Sample&Hold modulations are their stepped course due to abrupt changes in the random voltage values of the module.
The clock control allows rhythmic modulations, which can also be varied with a dynamic clock-devider. Clock control can also deliver extremely exciting results by modulating a step sequencer. Since the modulations of the MST Noise Sample & Hold never run uniformly, the module is ideally suited to impart organic modulations to electronic beats - e.g. with the modulation of the cutoff frequency of a filter that generates an echo signal;
Three different noise types, Pink, Slow Random Noise and White are available at separate outputs. The white noise is practically normalized to the signal IN. This allows control voltages to be generated without the need for a signal to be applied to the input.
The Synthrotek MST series is currently Synthrotek's premium module line. It consists of various modules for the Eurorack and was developed by Synthrotek in collaboration with synthesizer pioneer George Mattson.
