Sennheiser produces primarily for the music industry, aviation and the entertainment industry. Sennheiser also manufactures consumer electronics for private customers. The company's first independently developed microphone was the MD2, which they presented to the market in 1947. The first shotgun microphone followed in 1956. A year later, Sennheiser produced 100 different types of products. In 1968, the world's first open headphones appeared, heralding the success story of Sennheiser headphones. Infrared transmission technology followed in the seventies and multi-channel wireless transmission in the eighties.
