About Zildjian

The company history of the Zildjian Company begins in 1623: Avedis Zildjian I was an Armenian alchemist in Constantinople who tried to make gold from precious and base metals. Instead, he discovered an alloy of copper, tin and traces of silver that happened to have excellent and unique sound properties. Avedis Zildjian then used this knowledge to create cymbals with spectacular clarity and power.

Made by family tradition: Drum cymbals by Zildjian

Word of the exceptional sound of his cymbals spread quickly, his craftsmanship gained notoriety, and he was given the name Zildjian, which comes from Armenian and means son of the cymbal smith. Today, Zildjian is the 14th generation to make cymbals with the now nearly 400-year-old secret Zildjian alloy. Armand Zildjian's daughters, Craigie and Debbie, are currently carrying on the family tradition.
