I bought this device a couple of months ago, and so far Im quite impressed. The built quality is fairly decent: almost everything is made of alluminium except for the knobs and LCD-frames. I bought this device as an all-around jamming tool, but actually it can be a lot more. The things I like about it:
1. Built in drum computer. It is not the most complicated one, but it does give you a nice beat. Soundwise, I would say it is average.
2. Looper. Certainly in combination with the drumcomputer, the looper is a very fun and useful tool for practicing and crating. It can literally keep you jamming for hours!
3. The modulation/ delay- effects. They sound pretty good to me. Maybe a bit too digital but hey, for 150 euros I can live with that. You can certainly use these type of effects in gigs!
This last point brings me to one thing potential buyers should know: do NOT buy this thing to replace your distortion/drive pedals because frankly, they dont sound al that good. Ok, it is fun to have a lot of them together, but I wouldnt use this in a gig. The amp simulations are ok-ish, but nothing special either.
Conclusion:
For this price you get a well-working looper, some beats to jam to and a lot of good sounding effects! Certainly worth a look!
Oh and you can use this as and midi-interface to!!!
I use the zoom G3 for practice purpose. The battery operation is great for this. A practical and small unit with a good value to money.
Sound through headphone is acceptable (3 out of 5) but the sound through a tube amp is good (4 out of 5).
The looper function is a real benefit as well is the rhythm function
Operation is easy, you do need to read the manual only briefly to start.
This is truly a very useful device. I had a case full of stomp boxes which most of them I now have sold. :)
This device has a Univibe pedal in it, for which alone I would have paid the price!!!
Delays/Reverbs are good. I connected a separate foot switch with which turns the delay/reverb on/of. Parallel I connected a separate expression pedal, which I use for wah-wah and pitch-shifting pedals.
I even like some of the gain effects and build in Amps. I have a Marshall JVM 205H so I know what Im talking about.
All patches can be managed and saved on the computer, so you can store it on new Zoom if ever the old one would go broke. You can also share patches with others and download patches from others.
All in all a super bargain!
