A couple of friends and I decided to go on a roadtrip back in early June 2017 to Music Store, from NL, to see the amazing collection and to experience playing on a multiscale guitar for the first time ever.
Upon trying this Ibanez RGIM7MH-WK, I was absolutely blown away! The feel of the neck was very comfortable and the position of the frets being slightly "off" to the senses was no trouble at all. It took me all of two minutes to get used to it. After which it felt so natural and reaching all the frets was suddenly so easy!
Looks: This is one "slick" design. The weathered black wooden finish gives you a really high-level quality feeling and the level of detail really shows. The mono-rail bridge and the EMG 808X give this guitar a real unique look. I also enjoy that there are no inlays visible, dots or blocks the like. Gives it a really smooth finish. Definitely an eyecatcher on the stage! ;)
Quality: The Nitro Wizard-7 5pc neck is definitely one of my favorites so far. The feel of it in my hand is epic and really comfortable. The rosewood fretboard feels firm, but definitely smooth when moving along the frets. The mahogany body feels slightly heavy, but nevertheless the guitar is in a rather good balance when you have it on a strap around your shoulders.
Sound: The two EMG 808X active pickups produce a massive, but very clear sound. I was deeply impressed! The 3-way selector and tone-button give you plenty of room to tweak your sound from "metal" to "blues/jazz" and other genres the like, and it is especially impressive when playing on the neck pickup only with a clean channel. This gives a very warm and full sound. Because of the string set up combined with the mono-rail bridge and the fanned frets, the guitar stays in tune really well and especially when playing a bit "rougher", there is no noise of sloppiness to be heard.
Conclusion:
This is an absolute beast of a guitar, worthy to be in the top 10 of best multiscale 7-string guitars of the world, in my opinion! Ever since I played on this guitar, I have been dreaming of buying it almost every day and can't wait for the moment I have enough money to do so! Well done, Ibanez! You have impressed me very much.
