When you just start playing it for the first time, it's a bit bizarre with that headless neck and tiny body. But once you get used to it, you will love it.
When you use it with a strap, the bass is a bit deported to the left, so you have the impression you play on a ultra long neck. This might be a bit disturbing to some players, but as i'm used to the long neck of the Warwick Thumb, it was quiet ok to me.
Honestly, i was not expecting to get such a fun bass with such a good sound quality and long sustain for such a price !
Try to find a neck-through-body for this price :-)
At home, i have all my basses displayed, also some that are very very expensive, but i notice that when i want to play around for a while, i always grab this Spirit XT-2.
That says enough i think
I bought the XT25 5 string version two months ago and because I'm a beginner (at 54, LOL) I thought I'd better get the 4 string XT-2 aswell.
I'm glad I did. This bass plays even lighter than the XT25. I thought the XT-2 would have the same body and neck as the XT-2 just set up for 4 strings but no. The XT-2 is actually an even smaller bass.
The neck is 7mm less wide and the body itself is also a little smaller and lighter. It has more room between the strings which makes playing and slapping a lot easier. The pickups are also different. The XT25's pickups have 2 spring-loaded screws on one side and 1 spring-loaded screw on the other side. The XT-2 has 1 spring-loaded screw on each side.
The build quality of the XT-2 was a little less than the XT25 though. The frets were a bit sharp on one side so I had to sand them down carefully. I also put some gun oil on the threads of the tuners because they were very dry and difficult to turn. Now it's all smooth.
The neck pickup on my bass was slanted a bit towards the neck so I took it appart and it turned out the cable was pulled to tight into the body which pulled on the pickup. Easily fixed though.
So all in all an excellent bass but you may have to put a little work into it to get it to perfection. Nothing a beginner can't manage though. I ordered La Bella strings with the XT-2 because I also have them on my XT25 and the sound fenominal and also fit very well. The standard Gibson strings are rubbish just so you know.
So if you're in the market for one of these, pick one up. You won't regret it. I ordered mine on Sunday and had it delivered Thursday. I put the new strings on and set up the correct length by adjusting the saddles and I corrected the height too. I had to turn the trussrod tighter 1 quarter turn because the strings were sitting a bit high over the 24th fret. Btw, always adjust the trussrod one quarter turn at a time to avoid damage to the neck.
In conclusion, I'm very happy with it. It sounds great and plays very light!
