The Korg ARP Odyssey FS Rev 2 with Full Size Keyboard is a duophonic analogue synthesizer with a full size keyboard, two VCOs, a reproduced original ARP circuit, a noise generator and a drive switch. The ARP Odyssey was an analogue synthesizer originally produced in 1972 by ARP Instruments that was respected for its value, ease of playing and portability. Korg have now reintroduced the ARP Odyssey into the present day with the reproduced original circuitry for artists to recreate classic sounds and explore new ones.
The original ARP Odyssey was a duophonic instrument famous for its sharp, penetrating sound and rich range of tonal variation. With a variety of functions and modulation possibilities provided by oscillator sync, sample & hold, pulse width modulation, high-pass filter, two types of envelope generator, and pitch bend using the PPC, it was able to create a versatile range of sounds. The original ARP Odyssey came in three versions, differing according to the filter circuit; this reintroduction is equipped with all three of these different filter circuits, allowing you to select one with a switch:
TYPE I (Rev1) is a 12 dB/Oct circuit that produces a sharp, punchy sound. TYPE II (Rev2) is a 24 dB/Oct filter with high-quality lows. TYPE III (Rev3) maintains stability when resonance is raised. These distinctive filters have been reproduced just as they originally were. On the original ARP Odyssey, the behaviour of portamento when using the transpose function differed between Rev1 and Rev2/3. The ARP Odyssey reproduces both of these behaviours and lets you select the desired one with a switch.
The keyboard features a 37-note slim keyboard that features a lighter weight and easy playability. Despite only containing 37 keys, the transpose function allows it cover a broad range of seven octaves. In order to deliver a more powerful analogue sound, a DRIVE switch is provided that makes the VCA distort, generating a rough and raw sound. In addition to a MIDI IN connector and USB-MIDI port, this synthesizer comes with a headphone jack with adjustable volume. The XLR output jacks have been changed to noise-resistant balanced outputs.
The reintroduced ARP Odyssey is available in three styles. This model is the limited edition Rev2 with a black panel and gold silk-screening.
