The SIPARIO from the Italian company Lab4Music is a MIDI router that is especially intended for live keyboard players who want to control their entire setup centrally from one device.
The SIPARIO (Italian word for"curtain") is housed in a small, extremely sturdy metal case in desk form and fits on any keyboard.
The large touch display immediately catches the eye, next to it is the multi-function rotary knob with pressure function for confirming the entered values, as well as an exit button and the so-called fun button, which also serves as a panic button.
On the back of the SIPARIO there are 2 MIDI In and 2 MIDI Out ports each, 2 USB ports (for power supply and for connection to a computer), as well as a pedal input. This allows you to connect 2 keyboards or MIDI controllers as input devices, and 2 to receive the data (plus more via their MIDI Thru jacks).
In addition, the virtual instruments installed in the computer can be controlled via USB. Using the touch display and the multi-function controller, up to 40 scenes can be programmed, each of which can contain up to 30 performances, which in turn contain up to 8 settings for the connected devices. All important MIDI functions (input and output, MIDI channel, program change, keyboard zone, volume, pitch control, aftertouch...) as well as controller data are considered, also different velocity curves are adjustable.
In this way the SIPARIO can control all sounds of the connected devices for a complete live gig, e.g. by assigning the scenes to the individual song titles. Additionally helpful here is the possibility to name scenes and performances (e.g. with song titles) or to display them with icons of various instruments.
