The Akai Professional MPK mini IV builds on the legacy of one of the most popular compact DAW controllers, presenting a fourth-generation model packed with new and improved features. Alongside its modernized design, the most striking visual updates are the dual handwheels for pitch bend and modulation, which enhance expressive control. The arpeggiator has been significantly upgraded, now featuring pattern, freeze, and mutate functions that go far beyond the typical up-and-down patterns. In addition, a Chord Mode and a dedicated MIDI Out socket have been added, expanding both performance and connectivity options. The 25 velocity-sensitive mini keys provide a responsive playing experience, while the bright color OLED display offers clear, detailed visual feedback for all parameters and operations. The eight rotary encoders come preconfigured for numerous plug-ins, yet remain fully customizable to suit your workflow. Their new design eliminates unwanted parameter jumps, ensuring smooth and consistent control adjustments. The eight pressure-sensitive MPC pads with RGB backlighting can be organized across two banks, making them perfect for playing drum sounds, triggering samples, or creating dynamic performances. Classic MPC features such as Note Repeat and Full Level are also included for authentic beat-making. With Chord Mode, you can trigger entire chord progressions with a single finger, while Scale Mode provides access to a wide range of scales, covering everything from modern dance genres to exotic world music tonalities. Connectivity is modern and versatile: the rear panel includes a USB-C port for power and data transfer, a sustain pedal input, and a MIDI output—ideal for controlling hardware expanders or other MIDI-capable instruments without USB. Fully compatible with leading DAWs such as Ableton Live, Logic Pro, FL Studio, Bitwig, and Cubase, the MPK mini IV integrates seamlessly into any studio setup and is ready for use straight out of the box.
