The K812 transducer is the largest AKG has ever built. The 53 mm transducer was developed to push the boundaries, to get as close as possible to sonic perfection. During the development process, AKG developed the transducer from scratch in order to ensure the highest in-class headroom and dynamic range.
The AKG K812's copper-covered aluminum voice coil reproduces sound beyond 50kHz and the 53 mm transducer is the largest AKG has ever built. It was developed to get to sonic perfection as close as possible, resulting in the highest in-class headroom and dynamic range.
AKG K812I bought these as an upgrade to a pair of AKG K712 Pro headphones with some trepidation, as it was not possible to listen to them first, and there are a lot of mixed reviews out there on the internet. Made my decision based on the fact that although some 'professional' reviewers gave poor reviews of these headphones, normal people who just wanted to listen to them seemed to rate them very highly.
Considering that these are purely for listening to music for me, I don't really spend my time worrying about technical issues at certain frequencies - I just want them to sound good! And in that, they have blown me away - I had always ben impressed with my K712 headphones, however just wanted something to give that bit 'more' in terms of bringing out the detail in the music. Switching to the K812s, it seems like several veils have been removed, to the point that there is no comparison between them - vocals, baselines, all of the song just seems to come to life more. I'm finding myself reaching for yet another album to listen to and marvelling at how enjoyable it is to hear.
The only negative I would say is that whilst they are pretty comfortable, they don't yet feel quite as comfortable to me as the K712s did (although I do have rather more generously sized ears than most!).
Overall, I highly recommend these headphones, regardless of some of the negative opinions of them from YouTubers.
