Arturia’s DrumBrute is a drum machine with 17 completely analogue drum sounds. Each feature has its own knobs meaning there is no need to navigate menus. 12 individual outputs, a useful sequencer and synthesize functions catapult the DrumBrute into the limelight of stages and studios.
17 full-length drum samples can be found here, consisting of two separate Kicks, Snare, Clap, HiHat 1, HiHat 2, Conga Hi, Conga Lo, Tom Hi, Tom Lo, Maracas, Rimshot, Clave, Tambourine, Cymbal, Zap and even a Reverse Cymbal.
The popular Steiner Parker filter has two modes (high-pass and low-pass) and the direct bypass switch on the master output provides for tasteful filter sweeps and point-accurate bass drops. Each of the 17 drum instruments have controls for their individual sound processes, so that for each performance a perfectly matched kit can be prepared. The DrumBrute also features noise-free programming of up to 64 steps in 64 patterns, and a song mode for chaining them together. Each feature has its own controls, so more time is spent on making music and the flow is not lost during composition or performance.
At the same time DrumBrute is also able to satisfy even the most demanding musicians and producers, offering: swing & random generators that can be adjusted both globally and individually for each drumming instrument; step repeat, roller and looper functions with a practical touchstrip; and separate accent function per drum.
Versatile options for synchronization with other equipment include: Internal, USB, MIDI, Clock (1 step, 2 ppq [Korg], 24 ppq, 48 ppq). There are also 12 individual audio outputs (3.5 mm) and a double headphone output (6.3 and 3.5 mm connection) for monitoring purposes.
The stable housing, the large pads and the wobble-free potentiometer can withstand the stresses of frequent gigs without problems. Arturia has developed a robust live instrument that can cope with a tough touring routine.
No other full-featured Drum-machine can offer such an inspiring and dynamic workflow whilst remaining intuitive and fun to use.
Arturia DrumBruteIt can do much more what you first expect from it. It blows me away, but not straight from the box. Read till the end.
My favourite features:
-Independent Swing settings for all individual channels, even for each note
- The step repeater is amazing, it really makes a difference for live performance or recording.
- The polyrythm function opens doors for progressive thinking
- The HP filter is very handy for live performances and gives you extra tonal options.
- The randomness helps you to bring something fresh to your performance
- It does have all the connection options what you possibly ever gonna need
-Super intuitive to use it
What I don't like about it:
-You can't save your drum tonal settings.
When you end up making a song or a pattern, you save it, right. But if you didn't take a picture from your drum settings, you gonna have hard times to make it sound right again if you want to return that same vibe.
-The Song mode and some of the pattern saving/deleting process is not clear.
-The internal sound is pretty flat to be honest!
BUT!
The the real deal is...
I honestly believe that the creators of this unit didn't intent to make a perfect drum machine out from the box.
The real dimensions of creating starts when you hook up this drum machine with other stuff.
From out of curiosity, I've hooked it up with my guitar amp.. It blown my mind away!
The lack of sound character problem got solved immediately.
The little, quite, but smart geek got transfer to an absolute beast.
Ever since, I'm experimenting with guitar effects and amps, and it really works for me.
