With the Citadel FX Wizard, Bastl Instruments presents the Eurorack version of the experimental, patchable effects unit Kastle 2 FX Wizard. Instead of the thin pin connectors, the module features 32 inputs and outputs for audio, CV, gate, Clock, and MIDI. At first glance, it offers all the typical parameters you would expect from a full-fledged effects device.
The nine stereo effects are organized into three banks, divided thematically into delay, amplitude, and pitch shifting. The available algorithms are Delay, Flanger, Freezer, Panner, Crusher, Slicer, Pitcher, Replayer, and Shifter. Dedicated CV inputs are provided for the most important parameters: Time, Feedback, and Amount. Even the FX algorithm can be selected via control voltage. Internal modulation options include an envelope, a synchronizable LFO with two waveforms, and a CV/gate pattern generator, which can be edited via the free WebApp. You decide where the line between effect and glitch or sound design becomes blurred.
The module features a reversible front panel, with FX WIZARD on one side and WAVE BARD on the other, and comes with a suitable tool for the process. Current and future firmware updates for Citadel/Kastle 2 can be loaded and tested via the USB port.
