Stereo sample player and more
With the Citadel Wave Bard, Bastl Instruments presents the Eurorack version of the experimental, patchable mini-sampler Kastle 2 Wave Bard is now available. Instead of the thin pin connectors, the module has 32 inputs and outputs for audio, CV, gate, Clock and MIDI. At first glance, you will find all the parameters typical for samplers, as you would expect from full-blown devices. The samples are organised in banks and can be selected, sequenced and manipulated using the knobs, the control voltages of the pattern generator and the LFO.
The Citadel Wave Bard comes from the factory with six loaded banks, each containing eight samples. The samples are selected via knob or animated via control voltage. Own samples, new patterns and even the scales for melodically quantised playback of the samples can be exchanged and added with the web-based Wave Bard Sample Loader matching. The sample time is specified as 89 seconds in mono and 44 seconds in Stereo at 16 bit / 44kHz. The effects section with filter, Delay and chorus/flanger covers everything that is beneficial to the sounds in this rather experimental context. The highlight, however, is that you can use the patch cables to create interactions between functions that are almost impossible to realise with classic samplers. An envelope and the LFO with two waveforms also provide a lot of movement in the sound; even the option to play the selected sample backwards has been considered. The Citadel Wave Bard is wild and loves to play its own song, which you can fully influence.
The module is equipped with a reversible front panel with WAVE BARD on one side and FX WIZARD on the other. A suitable tool for the process is supplied. Current and future firmwares and updates for Citadel/Kastle 2 can be loaded and tested via the USB port.
