The Clavia Nord Electro 7 HP at a glance
With the Nord Electro 7, Clavia introduces the seventh generation of the popular stage piano in eye-catching chimney red. Thanks to its high-quality workmanship, clearly structured control panel and sparing use of double assignments, the Nord Electro 7 is a guarantee for live playing and getting the sound you want. The 73-key Hammer Action keyboard from KAWAI is equipped with Triple Sensor technology for sensitive playing. The instrument is dual multitimbral, so two parts (upper/lower) respectively layers can be used at the same time! The parts are made up of organ, piano and synth, the number of voices varies per section. In addition, there is an extensive effects processor and an independent rotary effect that can be applied to organ, piano or synthesizer. The fact that the Nord Electro 7 is a real workhorse for stage and studio is evident from the assignable buttons for direct access to programs, upper/lower split zones including crossfades for the organ, piano and synthesizer sections and the clear menu structure.
ORGAN & ROTARY
The organ section offers Clavia's excellent simulations of B3 Tonewheel, B3 Bass, Soft B3, classic Vox and Farisa organs as well as a pipe organ model. The central control element in this area is the nine drawbars with LED bars. To ensure that the sound does not accidentally change on stage, you can switch between Live and two preset modes; the latter deactivate the faders. Elementary sound nuances such as vibrato/chorus and percussion have their own control elements and are directly accessible without the shift function.
The popular rotary effect is no longer permanently linked to the organ section but can be applied to organ, piano or synthesizer. Slow/Fast/Stop and distortion are the first setting options offered to give jazz organs in particular the necessary funkiness. A new addition is the selectable microphone positioning with three options that correspond to the common methods for reproducing the classic rotary speaker sound both on stage and in the studio. These variations in microphone placement influence both the perceived movement and the sound character of the Rotary speaker and range from punchy and present to soft and open.
PIANO
The piano section of the Nord Electro 7 features a wide selection of Grand, Upright, Electric, Digital/Layer, Clavinet/Harpsichord and Mallet keyboard instruments from Clavia's exclusive piano library, combined with new features such as Dynamic Compression, Timbre and Unison. The piano sounds can be expanded, exchanged and reorganized on the computer using the Nord Sound Manager. The polyphony of 120 voices is high enough to ensure that no decaying notes are cut off even when playing at high speeds. Details such as adjustable touch dynamics and touch curve, switchable string resonance and dynamic compression as well as five different timbre variants provide the player with everything he needs to achieve the desired piano sound in the shortest possible time.
SYNTHESIZER
The synthesizer section of the Nord Electro 7 offers a wide range of electronic sounds with very simple operation. Everything that musicians need most is available in terms of sound generation forms: Virtual Analog (classic waveforms including Hardsync and noise), samples (from the Nord Sample Library) and FM (Yamaha-style, but in simple). The sample and VA sounds can be processed with an excellent sounding digital lowpass filter. In the 2-knob FM synthesis, the controls Cutoff and Resonance become FM Partial & FM Amount. Both, however, can be modulated by the envelope. Two ADSR envelopes for amp and filter/FM with switchable velocity provide for varied sounds. The voice distribution can be individually set to polyphonic, mono, Legato or unison per Patch; in addition, vibrato can be triggered and glide can be activated in two stages.
EFFECTS
The effects section in the Nord Electro 7 has been significantly expanded compared to the previous model. FX FOCUS is used to switch whether the effects section is applied to organ, piano or synthesizer. Delay and compressor can be used as global effects, which means that all three sections benefit from the two effects. There are two effect blocks that primarily provide modulation effects such as eg. Chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, ring modulator, panorama or wah. Amp Simulator / EQ more than fulfills its task and impresses with the new Brit and Suitcase models, among others. This effect block is essential for characteristic organ sounds! The delay is extensively adjustable, can be synchronized to Clock, offers a choice between digital and analogue character, masters two different ping-pong variants, which are particularly effective in the panorama, and has three filter bands for the feedback path. The reverb scores with 5 reverb effects ranging from a small room to a cathedral and even includes a spring reverb for the iconic Schepper reverbs. The sound character can be switched between bright and dark. The 1-button compressor concludes the effects section; percussive sounds and the sum (global) in particular benefit from this simple option to add more punch.
