Crazy Tube Circuits HI Power - amp-in-a-box pedal with legendary Brit amp character
The Crazy Tube Circuits Hi Power is a versatile dual-drive and amp-in-a-box pedal that captures the iconic combination of two British amp legends, a sound that was instrumental in shaping the Pink Floyd albumWish You Were Here. The pedal combines an authentic Colorsound Power Boost replica with a detailed Hiwatt amp simulation, delivering the complete spectrum from crystal-clear clean sounds to compressed, raw crunch textures. As with all dual pedals from Crazy Tube Circuits, the Hi Power also has a passive effects loop so that the booster and amp sections can be used separately or versatilely integrated into a larger routing system. There is also a power-up bypass function that can be used to determine the state in which the pedal starts when it is switched on.
Left side: Hiwatt tube amp with authentic tube characteristics
The left-hand side, on the other hand, is the heart of the Hi Power: a fully analog replica of the sound characteristics of a Hiwatt tube amplifier - including a complete EQ section, presence control in the negative feedback path and a headroom switch that switches between a 100-watt and a 50-watt power amp characteristic. You can also choose between three input voicings: the warm normal channel, the more brilliant bright channel or the powerful, high-gain combination of both inputs - just like a real Hiwatt.
Right side: Power boost with 2-band EQ
The right-hand side of the pedal features a faithfully reconstructed power boost circuit with BC184 transistors, which run at 18 volts thanks to an internal voltage boost and thus provide the enormous dynamics of the original effect. The flexible Baxandall 2-band EQ enables precise sound shaping, while modern additions such as a switchable master volume control, an improved gain taper and an overdriver mode (with more gain and less headroom) combine the classic character with contemporary handling.
