The NYX Reissue from Dreadbox is an analog desktop synthesizer with a focus on rich lead sounds, basslines and slightly more complex sounds. In Greek mythology, Nyx is the goddess of the night and one of the oldest deities to emerge from chaos. In the case of this synthesizer, you enter the plane of the night with the super luuuush sounding
The Nyx features two oscillators, each differing in octave spacing and waveform selection. Glide can be adjusted independently for each oscillator, and hard sync can be switched from VCO 1 to VCO 2. A standout feature of the Nyx is the ability to reroute oscillators, filters and modulation using three selector switches.
The filter itself is a resonant 12/24dB dual filter with lowpass and highpass characteristics. At higher resonance, it strongly colors the signal and delivers a powerful punch, particularly in the low frequency range. The dense, rich reverb completes the signal path.
The modulation section includes a vibrato LFO for both oscillators and three rise/fall envelopes with loop mode. In loop mode, each envelope functions as an LFO, with the special feature that its waveform evolves with the set speed. The combination of control voltage and audio inputs and outputs opens up sound design possibilities that would be impossible without the patch sockets. Classic oscillator sync solos, keytracking for the filter, PWM via the modulation wheel and noise as an additional sound source are just a few examples of what can be achieved.
