The Fame PB Burl Top Trans Charcoal at a glance
With the Fame PB Burl Top, the Czech guitar makers at Fame present a truly unique P-style bass that packs a punch. While the shape of the neck and body gives it a familiar feel, the pickup from US market leader Seymour Duncan provides a powerful yet versatile voice suitable for almost any musical style. In addition, the Fame PB Burl Top features genuine Schaller tuners on the headstock for precise tuning.
Alder body with burl poplar top
The visual highlight of the Fame PB immediately catches the eye. The classic alder body is topped with a two-piece, highly figured poplar veneer. Precise bookmatching gives the top a unique symmetrical appearance. Despite the unconventional top for this model, the Fame PB remains true to the original design without body binding, allowing the delicately crafted transition to the body to remain clearly visible. Ergonomic features such as a wide tummy cut on the back and a practical contour for the right arm ensure comfort during long playing sessions.
Roasted maple neck & rosewood fingerboard
The thermally treated maple neck has a slim C-profile that provides the fretting hand with a solid base for accurate playing on the 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. Fame luthiers paid particular attention to the wood selection, aligning the neck's growth rings from headstock to neck heel for enhanced resistance to weather-related deformation. With a classic nut width of 41.5 mm and a fingerboard radius of 10 inches, the familiar feel for the fretting hand is established from the very first note.
Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound
The Fame PB Burl Top draws its flexible sound from a single split coil positioned between the bridge and neck heel. This is the Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound split coil, which features enlarged Alnico V pole pieces and hot coil windings for extra attack and extended power. At the same time, it can produce softer tones with rich depth. The PB's electronics remain traditionally passive, offering a volume control and a treble control to tame overly bright highs.
Fame PB Burl Top - Review on guitar-player.com
Excerpt:"The Fame PB and JB Burl Top electric basses deliver what they promise: a classic feel with a familiar character and a broad spectrum of potential sounds with clearly recognizable DNA of the historical models. The absolute highlight: the quarter pounder from Seymour Duncan. Rarely have I heard a passive bass with so much oomph that you'd be forgiven for thinking there were active electronics under the hood! Nevertheless, the PB and JB models basically remain true to their genre, so Preci and Jazz fans know exactly what they're getting into here."
