I wanted a small bass drum this was just right for me I put a kick pad on the skin and it sounds fab
Would recommend to any one good sturdy feet that holds it in place .
With the right tuning this bass drum is thunder. Of course it doesn't go low as a 22 or 24 inch and that is to be understood. I use it to play hip-hop, drum'n'bass, r'n'b, 2step and such styles where you want a higher pitch and punch. I replaced the stock head with Pinstripe and it plays beautifully. A bit of muffling of the reso head is all that's needed. Nothing in the drum, no port hole, but you have to play off the head, not burying the beater. I use the two tom mounting holes as cymbal arm mounts. Perfect for a portable set.
The only gripe I have with this drum is that the wooden rims are a bit too wide. Because of this the rim on the batter side slides up (due to the weight of the drum pressing onto the floor) and then only two millimeters of the rim holds the rim of the drum head. It's not a big deal, since the hoop still does what it's supposed to do, but it got me worried a bit.
Apart from this it's a fantastic little kick drum that also looks really good!
I bought this bass drum as an add on to my timbale set up…it fit very well especially as the Tom holder block was the right diameter to hold two boom cymbal arms. The drum was well made and finished and with a bass patch and a small piece of felt on the batter head, minimal damping on the reso head and careful tuning…this drum sounds amazing - solid impact and a deep thump…and all with nothing inside the drum. I also bought it as a tester for a probable purchase of a Fame jungle kit. If the kit is as good as this drum, I’ll be well pleased.
