B20 is an alloy consisting of 80% copper and 20% tin—a composition that has become the standard in professional cymbal manufacturing. B20 cymbals represent the supreme discipline of cymbal forging, and the majority of professional drum cymbals are crafted from this premium alloy. The forging process begins with a heated piece of metal, which is then rolled, hammered, and rolled again to shape it into its typical cymbal form. The bell (top of the cymbal) is usually stamped in by machine. The most crucial step follows: each cymbal is painstakingly hand-hammered, creating its unique pattern and profile. This manual process gives every B20 cymbal its individual sound character, making each piece a one-of-a-kind.
