The Fame PB Burl Top Trans Blue at a glance
With the Fame PB Burl Top, the Czech guitar makers at Fame present a truly unique P-style bass that packs a punch! While the shape of the neck and body offers familiar handling, the Seymour Duncan pickup courtesy of the US market leader, gives the bass a powerful yet versatile voice, suitable for almost any style of play. Additionally, the Fame PB Burl Top comes equipped with some notable features, including genuine Schaller tuners on the headstock.
Alder body with burl poplar top
The visual highlight of the Fame PB is immediately striking. The classic alder body is topped with a two-piece poplar burl top, whose intricate figuring catches the eye. The precise bookmatching ensures the top has a symmetrical, one-of-a-kind look. Despite the distinctive top, the Fame PB remains true to its P-style roots, with no additional body binding, allowing the meticulously crafted body transition to stand out. As expected, the body includes ergonomic features like a wide tummy cut on the back and a practical right-arm contour for added comfort.
Roasted maple neck & rosewood fingerboard
The neck of the Fame PB is crafted from thermally treated maple, featuring a slim C-profile that provides a solid foundation for smooth playing on the 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. The luthiers at Fame paid close attention to the wood selection: the growth rings of the neck extend from the headstock to the neck foot, offering increased resistance to weather-related deformation. With a classic nut width of 41.5 mm and a 10" fretboard radius, the familiar feel of the neck is evident from the first note.
Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound
As with many of its counterparts, the Fame PB Burl Top draws its impressive tonal flexibility from a single split coil pickup, positioned centrally between the bridge and neck heel. The Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound pickup features larger Alnico-V pole pieces that deliver extra attack and enhanced power, thanks to its hot coil windings. However, it's important to note that the SPB-3 also produces softer tones with added depth when needed. The PB's electronics are traditionally passive, featuring a volume control and a treble control to tame any overly bright highs.
Fame PB Burl Top Trans Blue - Test report on guitar-player.com
Excerpt:"The Fame PB and JB Burl Top electric basses deliver what they promise: a classic feel with a familiar character and a broad spectrum of potential sounds with clearly recognizable DNA of the historical models. The absolute highlight: the quarter pounder from Seymour Duncan. Rarely have I heard a passive bass with so much oomph that you'd be forgiven for thinking there were active electronics under the hood! Nevertheless, the PB and JB models basically remain true to their genre, so Preci and Jazz fans know exactly what they're getting into here."
