Powerful Precision style with an elegant burl look and high-quality hardware
With the Fame PB Burl Top, Fame presents a distinctive Precision-style bass that delivers both striking looks and powerful tone. While the familiar body and neck shape ensure a classic playing feel, a pickup from the US manufacturer Seymour Duncan gives the bass a strong yet versatile voice suitable for a wide range of musical styles. The Fame PB Burl Top is further enhanced by premium features such as genuine Schaller tuners on the headstock.
Alder body with burl poplar top
The most striking visual feature of the Fame PB Burl Top is its beautifully figured top. The classic alder body is topped with a two-piece poplar burl top, whose intense figuring is highlighted through precise bookmatching that creates a symmetrical pattern. Despite this unusual aesthetic upgrade, the instrument remains faithful to the traditional design and intentionally omits body binding, leaving the carefully crafted transition between top and body clearly visible. Naturally, the body also features proven ergonomic contours, including a generous belly cut on the back and a comfortable forearm contour.
Roasted maple neck & rosewood fingerboard
The neck of the Fame PB Burl Top is made from thermally treated maple and features a slim C profile that provides the fretting hand with a stable and comfortable playing surface across the 20-fret rosewood fingerboard. The luthiers at Fame Guitars paid particular attention to the wood selection. The growth rings run lengthwise from the headstock to the neck heel, which increases the neck’s resistance to warping caused by climate changes. With a classic 41.5 mm nut width and a 10-inch fingerboard radius, the instrument immediately delivers the familiar feel expected from a traditional Precision-style bass.
Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound
Like many instruments of this type, the Fame PB Burl Top derives its versatile tone from a centrally positioned split-coil pickup. In this case it is the Seymour Duncan SPB-3 Quarter Pound, whose enlarged Alnico V pole pieces and hotter windings provide increased attack and powerful output. At the same time, the pickup is capable of producing warmer tones with additional depth when required. The electronics remain traditionally passive and feature a master volume and tone control for shaping the high frequencies.
Fame PB Burl Top - Review on guitar-player.com
Excerpt:"The Fame PB and JB Burl Top electric basses deliver what they promise: a classic feel with a familiar character and a broad spectrum of potential sounds with clearly recognizable DNA of the historical models. The absolute highlight: the quarter pounder from Seymour Duncan. Rarely have I heard a passive bass with so much oomph that you'd be forgiven for thinking there were active electronics under the hood! Nevertheless, the PB and JB models basically remain true to their genre, so Preci and Jazz fans know exactly what they're getting into here."
