The Fender 2018 50's Journeyman Relic Jazzmaster Faded 3-Color Sunburst from the Fender Custom Shop combines classic '50s offset design and authentic vintage sounds with modern detail solutions to a top-class electric guitar for surf and alternative rock. The electric guitar has an ash body and a one-piece maple neck in the comfortable "1957 Soft V" profile. Two hand-wound Jazzmaster single coil pickups together with the lead and rhythm circuit deliver versatile sounds with a distinctive voice. Last but not least, the Jazzmaster features the innovative Fender RSD Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge, the Fender Vintage Floating Tremolo and precise Vintage Style Tuner.
For the construction of the Fender '50s Journeyman Relic Jazzmaster only woods worthy of a custom shop instrument are used. Accordingly, the body is made in two parts from particularly light ash, while the one-piece neck is made from maple in rift cut with standing annual rings. In combination with the artificially aged nitrocellulose finish, the electric guitar convinces with a vibrating, high-yielding basic sound. The classic offset design of the body and the surprisingly handy and comfortable "1957 Soft V" neck profile also ensure a high level of playing comfort.
The Fender 2018 '50s Journeyman Relic Jazzmaster uses two hand-wound custom shop Jazzmaster single coils as pickups. Due to their flat but very wide "pancake" winding and the use of classic Alnico rod magnets under each string, they deliver a warm, dense tone that never lacks the transparency and dynamics typical of single coilers.
The pickups of the Fender Journeyman Relic Jazzmaster are managed by the well-known variable circuit with lead and rhythm circuit. In the lead-circuit, the control panel in the lower half of the body and both pickups are available. The 3-way switch allows the single coils to be selected individually or in combination, while general volume and tone controls allow the timbre to be adjusted. Pressing the slide switch in the upper half of the body activates the rhythm circuit, which exclusively provides the neck pickup with its own volume and tone controls. In this way, two sound images can be easily adjusted and conveniently retrieved.
The Fender 2018 '50s Journeyman Relic uses the innovative Fender RSD Jaguar/Jazzmaster bridge as a bridge, whose design avoids the disadvantages of the original construction from the 1950s. With brass string riders it also supports the even and brilliant sound of the electric guitar. The tailpiece is the Fender Vintage Floating Tremolo, which allows both upward and downward pitch shifts and can be locked by pressing a button if required. Fender vintage style tuners at the headstock also guarantee stable tuning.
