When designing the Fender 2018 Journeyman Relic 1964 Strat, the Fender Custom Shop relies on the authentic specifications of the early 1960s. Accordingly, the electric guitar has a two-piece alder body, while the screwed maple neck carries a "Round Laminated" rosewood fretboard, which is glued onto the given radius. With the "1963 C" profile, the electric guitar also offers the best playing characteristics, so that every note goes out of hand as if by itself.

The Fender 2018 Journeyman Relic 1964 Stratocaster Super Faded Aged Sonic Blue features three hand-wound Fender Custom Shop '64 Strat Single Coil Pickups. With their moderate output and the typical bell-like sound development they provide the best conditions for authentic vintage sounds between blues and rock. The reverse polarity and winding of the middle pickup (RWRP, Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity) also keeps the intermediate positions of the 5-way blade switch free of unwanted background noise. A volume and two tone controls are also available to further adjust the timbre.
