With the Fender Bob Bain "Son of a Gunn" Telecaster, Fender Custom Shop masterbuilder Paul Waller presents an authentic replication of the electric guitar with which Bob Bain shaped the soundtrack of American pop culture. From the legendary "Peter Gunn" and "Mission Impossible" themes to sessions with Frank Sinatra and Quincy Jones and the Tonight Show Band, Bob Bain recorded countless songs on the heavily modified Telecaster. Accordingly, the Fender Bob Bain "Son of a Gunn" Tele also features an ash body and a screwed maple neck in the "'53 Soft V"-profile, while a Seymour Duncan SH-1n '59 humbucker on the neck and a Fender '51 Nocaster Single Coil on the bridge provide versatile sounds. Of course, Paul Waller also equipped the Telecaster with the striking Bigsby B16 Vibrato for dazzling vibrato sounds.
For the construction of the Fender "Son of a Gunn" Telecaster, master builder Paul Waller naturally relies on the authentic building plans and first-class woods, which are the perfect basis for an authentic vintage sound. Accordingly, the body is made from selected light ash, while maple is used for the neck in rift cut with standing annual rings. The combination of artificially aged nitrocellulose finish and "'53 Soft V"-profile offers a comfortable vintage feel.
As a session musician, Bob Bain modified to deliver the full range of popular sounds. This feature is authentically reproduced by Paul Waller using a Fender '51 Nocaster Single Coil on the bridge and a Seymour Duncan SH-1n '59 Humbucker on the neck. The Nocaster Single Coil convinces with a fat twang sound, whose merciless attack makes every note whip, while the humbucker delivers warm singing vintage sounds. The pickups are controlled by the classic Tele Control Plate with 3-way blade switch and general volume and tone controls.
Last but not least, the Fender "Son of a Gunn" Telecaster features the authentic Bigsby B16 Vibrato, which was originally only available from 1953 to 1954 and was used by Bob Bain to modify his Telecaster. With its striking construction, which includes a base plate with pickup holder and opening for the bridge with compensated string support, it immediately catches the eye and offers the possibility to provide melodies and chords with dazzling sound modulations at the same time. At the headstock, Fender Vintage Style tuners and a bone saddle guaranteed an exact tuning with high stability.
