With the Fender Eric Johnson Pre-Wired Strat Pickguard, almost any Stratocaster can be upgraded with a Set coveted Custom Eric Johnson Signature single coil in no time at all. The pre-wired pickguard can easily be used as a drop-in replacement, so that only the bridge ground and the output jack need to be soldered. For Eric's unique sound, an individual mix of different pickup configurations is used: the single coil based on a '54 pickup in the neck position offers oversized Alnico III pole pieces for detailed midrange resolution and a warm sound, while the bridge pickup with Alnico V magnets with its hotter winding ensures a balanced sound. Last but not least, the reversed-polarity, wound mid-range pickup completes the Strat's classic sound palette and ensures hum-free sounds in the intermediate positions 2 and 4.
