The Fender Tony Franklin Fretless Precision Bass EB Black is a highly flexible four-string instrument designed in collaboration with the legendary session bassist fromDerby, known as the "Fretless Monster." Based on the classic P-Bass design, this signature model features a fretless ebony fingerboard and a specially tuned PJ pickup configuration. An alder body and bolt-on maple neck with a fast-playing "Modern C" profile provide exceptional comfort and balance. Rugged hardware, including a 4-saddle bridge, three Vintage-Style tuners, and a practical D-Tuner, complete this professional-grade fretless bass.

The comfortable "Modern C" maple neck of the Tony Franklin Fretless Bass is bolted to the alder body via an engraved neck plate.

To achieve the Tony Franklin Signature Bass’s distinctive fretless tone with singing sustain, Fender equips the Precision-style body with a smooth ebony fingerboard. Dot inlays along the side provide clear position markers. The slim “Modern C” neck profile ensures effortless playability up to the highest frets, while the traditionally contoured alder body delivers excellent balance both on the strap and across the thigh.
The Tony Franklin PJ pickup setup with 3-way switch and traditional passive electronics promises versatile bass sounds with the typical fretless character.
Perfectly tuned PJ setup
The bass’s electronics feature a PJ pickup configuration developed in close collaboration with Tony Franklin, capturing the full nuance of the fretless fingerboard. The Tony Franklin American Split-Coil in the middle position produces the classic growly P-Bass tone with rich low-mid punch, while the Tony Franklin Single Coil with hex-pole pieces and ceramic magnets at the bridge adds a bright, assertive character. Controls include a 3-way pickup selector, master volume, and treble slider for precise tone shaping.
Thanks to the Hipshot D tuner, the E string of the Tony Franklin Signature Bass can be tuned to Drop-D in a flash.
Classic Bridge and D-Tuner
Fender pairs traditional hardware design with modern reliability. The 4-saddle American Vintage bridge features single-groove barrel string riders for accurate intonation and string alignment. On the headstock, three Vintage-Style tuners and a Hipshot D-Tuner for the low E string allow fast, precise retuning to Drop-D, making this bass road-ready and performance-ready.
