Product information - Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2 VSB

Acoustic guitar, custom shop, all solid, Adirondack spruce top, mahogany body, mahogany neck, rosewood fretboard, including case

With the new custom shop model of the folk and blues classic LG-2 , the manufacturer Gibson presents a particularly well-done replica of the 1942 model with a thermally aged top and the original materials and dimensions. Popular because of its small size , this instrument offers an incomparable playing feel and, thanks to its robust neck, allows comfortable fingering in all 20 frets , so that even solo parts in the high frets become child's play. The wafer-thin Vintage Sunburst nitro finish allows the material to vibrate freely and fully embodies the spirit of times past. The equipment is completed with a perfectly fitting case and a Gibson Accessory Kit .

The Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2 VSB comes with a timeless look and characteristic sound.
Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2 VSB body
Adirondack spruce top with coarse grain

A top made of Adirondack spruce provides a dynamic sound

Due to its strong resonance, the Adirondack spruce (red spruce) was particularly popular in the United States as early as the beginning of the 20th century for the construction of the finest musical instruments and is easily recognized by its coarse but even grain and light attack . Especially the mid and high frequencies stand out and give the compact design of the LG-2 a very dynamic and loud sound, especially when fingerstyling or picking . A flat Scalloped-X-Bracing favours this effect and in combination with a thermo treatment of the wood makes the instrument sound as if it had been played for years. The typical Gibson Vintage Sunburst finish complements the appearance and creates a smooth transition to the other woods.

Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2 VSB back
Back and sides made of finest mahogany

A mahogany body with warm and expressive bass

In order to enrich the sound with gentle saturation , the manufacturer uses exquisite mahogany wood on the back and sides that is extremely warm and defined in the bass frequencies. Here, too, a light construction plays a decisive role in ensuring that the sound is complete and balanced and that it has a pleasant but not obtrusive fullness. The wafer-thin nitro finish allows the construction to vibrate greatly and the full potential of the instrument to unfold easily even when individual notes are played. The dark colour of the body harmonises perfectly with the top wood and is clearly defined by cream-coloured bindings , but in a very aesthetic way, giving the observer the impression of holding a true antique in his hands.

Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2 VSB head
A mahogany neck with a striking rosewood fingerboard

A short mahogany neck with rosewood fingerboard

Due to its compact design, the LG-2 is very comfortable and easy to play and quickly conveys the impression of having known the instrument for many years like a good friend. The robust mahogany neck with its rosewood fretboard allows the player to easily master even difficult fingerings or solos. Decisive for this are the short scale length of 628.6 mm and nut width of 43 mm , which allow easy access even in the highest of the 20 frets . For orientation, fine mother-of-pearl inlays are embedded in the frets, which very discreetly indicate the quality of the materials used and gently emphasize the coarse grain of the rosewood fingerboard. The  bone nut and the corresponding compensated saddle ensure clean intonation and a long-lasting tone, fading away clearly in the overtones after each hit.

Gibson 1942 Banner LG-2 VSB case
Tradition and modernity in one guitar

The characteristic head plate with its precise tuners

Probably the guitar's most striking trademark is the timeless headstock with its open nickel tuners with butterbean knobs , which not only create a venerable overall impression but also allow extremely precise tuning. The old Gibson logo and the slogan "only a Gibson is good enough" refer to the long history of the manufacturer and still fill guitarists all over the world with awe. On the back of the headstock, above the tuners, the production number of the instrument is encoded in a multi-digit numerical code.

Accessories and care

To a treasure like this, of course one needs the best accessories to care for it properly. Therefore, not only a moulded case is included in the package, but a Gibson Accessory Kit as well. The LG-2 comes equipped with a Gibson set of strings in 0.012" to 0.053" gauge , that are very soft to the touch and pleasant to grip due to the short scale length. Because of the thin nature of the varnish, it is recommended to maintain the instrument carefully with an "optionally" available Gibson polish .
