Historically accurate reissue of the Les Paul Goldtop from 1956
With the Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue ULA Double Gold electric guitar, the Gibson Custom Shop delivers a historically accurate special model designed especially for fans of classic Fifties Paulas from the pre-humbucker era. This 1956-style Les Paul is unique for its combination of dual P90 pickups alongside the resonant and adjustable Tune-o-Matic/Stopbar bridge system, resulting in an exceptionally distinctive sound character.
The Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue ULA Double Gold with two Custom Soapbar P90 pickups and No-Wire ABR-1 bridge presents itself as a genuine Mid Fifties Les Paul.
The neck is glued with Long Neck Tenon and Hide Glue and comes in a strong "'50s Rounded Medium C" profile.
Traditional construction for an unmistakable Les Paul feel
Built as a classic Fifties Les Paul, the Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue ULA Double Gold #64022 uses only traditional tonewoods in a familiar construction. The body is crafted from one-piece, lightweight mahogany, offering balanced strap comfort, and is topped with a two-piece maple cap accented by Royalite binding. All glue joints are historically accurate, assembled using hot hide glue. The mahogany neck features the powerful "'50s Rounded Medium C"profile typical of mid-’50s Les Pauls, providing ample wood for secure chord playing and expressive leads. The unmistakable Les Paul feel continues on the rosewood fingerboard, which is equipped with Historic Narrow Tall fretwire, faithfully reproducing the original early models.
Two Gibson Custom P-90 pickups and the hand-wired circuit with paper-in-oil capacitors deliver authentic vintage rock sounds.
P-90 pickups from the Custom store
As the last Les Paul before the famous PAF-era instruments equipped with double humbuckers, the Gibson 1956 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue ULA DoubleGold #64022 delivers the unmistakable sound of two Custom Shop Soapbar P90 pickups. These two Alnico single coils, housed in cream-colored Soapbar covers, blend the sharp attack of single coils with rich mids thanks to their wider coil windings, making them a perennial favorite for classic rock tones. Both pickups are powered by hand-wired electronics featuring high-quality CTS potentiometers for volume and tone control, along with paper-in-oil capacitors that provide smooth, harmonic treble roll-offs.
