The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Lemon Burst Heavy Aged represents the first vintage of the golden Les Paul era of the late fifties, which heralded the famous Burst models. As a genuine Gibson Custom Shop instrument, no expense or effort was spared to recreate this classic as faithfully as possible. In addition to a historically correct wood selection and electronics that have been recreated down to the smallest detail, this reissue features an authentic hard aging treatment from the Gibson Murphy Lab.
In addition to construction and sound, the Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard's coherent overall concept includes successful aging, which ensures the right look and feel. For this, the Gibson Custom Shop calls on the experts at Murphy Lab, who skilfully apply an aged treatment to both the nitrocellulose finish and the nickel-plated hardware of the 1958 Les Paul. The heavy aged treatment represents a stronger aging process and simulates the accumulated signs of wear and tear in the form of visible traces of playing an instrument that has been played frequently over the years. The composition of the nitrocellulose lacquer has also been taken into account, so that the instrument can develop additional ageing characteristics over time.
The Gibson 1958 Les Paul Standard Lemon Burst Heavy Aged comes with hand-wired electronics that skilfully reproduce the sound and response of traditional models. Two hand-wound Gibson Custom Bucker pickups are used, which follow the classic PAF recipe with their Alnico III magnets and unwaxed coils. In addition, the treble roll-off of the tone controls is done via real CTS potentiometers and paper-in-oil capacitors to skilfully recreate Clapton's coveted 'Woman Tone'.
The key to the success of a good Les Paul Reissue can be found in its basic construction, which is made up of a strong Chunky-C mahogany neck with a long glued neck foot for a direct response with long sustain. The body, also made of mahogany, consists of one solid piece and has a two-piece maple top, which is finished with a stylish Royalite binding. Of course, a 22-fret fingerboard made of East Indian rosewood with historically correct Authentic Medium Jumbo fretwire is a must for a successful '58 reissue!
